What satellite matches can and cannot prove

Matching a UFO report with satellite data can provide a highly persuasive explanation, but it does not prove that every unexplained report involves satellites.

Some reports fail to match any predicted pass because:

  • the recorded time is inaccurate;
  • the witness estimated direction incorrectly;
  • the observation involved an aircraft, meteor or atmospheric effect instead;
  • the reported behaviour genuinely differs from known satellite motion.

Likewise, the existence of Starlink should not become a catch-all explanation for every unusual light. Good investigations test satellite hypotheses carefully and reject them when the timing, track or appearance does not fit.
